Police chased down and arrested a suspect in Salt Lake City nightclub shooting Saturday morning.
About 1:45 a.m., a 19-year-old man was at Club Manhattan, located at 5 E. 400 South. After an argument, he allegedly shot a 22-year-old man in the abdomen with an assault rifle, Salt Lake City Police Lt. Scott White said.
The victim was taken to University Medical Center in stable condition and remained in surgery about eight hours later. The shooter fled in a car, closely followed by police. Near the 400 South entrance to Interstate 15, the car started to pull over, then changed direction and fled for the freeway going north.
Police gave chase, and pulled over the car again. The shooter then climbed out of the car and ran. He fled to a gravel yard at 725 W. 200 South.
Officers and police dogs blocked off the yard and found the man hiding behind a piece of machinery. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and other charges.
Three people, a 19-year-old man, a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, attempted to pick the suspect up, White said, and were also arrested on suspicion of obstruction of justice.
White could not name a motive for the shooting, but said it was not gang related.

I used to do Security at Club Manhattan. They have big fights there on a regular basis. Stabbings and shootings are common there. Their crowd on Friday nights is a bad crowd. When I worked there, several of their customers had been 86ed from other night clubs. SLC Police used to sit in front of Club Manhattan on Friday nights anticipating trouble but then the owner threatened to sue them so they backed off. This club should not be in business.
