Sig 229?

So I was looking at 9mm guns yesterday and I really liked how the Sig 229 felt in my hand (the 239 felt good as well). Should I be so shocked that the price on this gun was $740? Or am I just not looking in the right store?

I was quite shocked at the price and it nearly made me run out of the store and right back into the comfy hands of Glock.

Someone said something about a group buy at FBMG, you might want to call down there and see if they are still doing it. Could save you some $$

I sent them an email to see what they can do.
I have also been considering this:

RUN! Run back to Glock!

But seriously, I know that Sig has a devoted following. In my own personal search I was attracted to the P239. I shelled out the cash, took it to the range and had the worst shooting experience with it. I'm sure my Sig experience was unique but I had many failures of differing kinds, the sights seemed to move throughout the session, accuracy was not very impressive, etc.

I expect a gun that costs that much to work flawlessly, all the time, clean or dirty. Then I picked up a glock and it was BLISS!!! cheaper, bulletproof simple design, accurate. Run back man, run back home.

on a side-note, it seems that most on this site are XD fans. its a rare post i see that praises the Glock. Just an observation.

That's because the XD is an improvement on the Glock. It took the good things from the Glock (rugged polymer design, integrated trigger safety, internal pin safety, etc) and then added a better grip angle and passive grip safety - not to mention iron sights to replace those dumpy plastic ones. XDs are just as reliable and about the same price as a Glock - so, with the improvements, you will see more and more people praising the XD. Just an explanation.
It looks like an XD in 9mm would run about $500 - $550, close to retail for a Glock. I can get a Glock, though, for $400.
Nice though that the Sig has a $100 rebate. That still makes it $640.
I get the XD/Glock stuff. I have owned 2 XD's and 5 Glocks. Having tried them both I chose to carry a Glock. Better platform IMO.

Roseblood it sounds like you already have a soft spot for Glocks...
This was my attempt to branch out and own other guns besides Glock. I know I would be happy with a G19, but I have shot Sigs and Berettas in the past and thought it would be nice to own something other than a Glock this time.

Funny how this all started with a gift of 350 rounds of 9mm.
I would be nice to own something other than a "Block". (Sorry reid36) I have found nothing but great accuracy from Sig or the XD. reid36's bad experience can be chocked up to being so use to the Glock that the fit and function of other pistols just threw him off. That really isn't uncommon.
I'm really thinking I just need to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and buy the Sig P229. Probably with the DAK trigger. I just wish the $100 rebate they offer for LE/Military would be a discount and not a check you have to wait 6 to 8 weeks to get.
Sig's are good, I had a P226 .40 cal., but I sold it because I just like the Glock's better. Sig's feel great in my hand, but I'm more accurate with Glock's. For me accuracy is more than the gun feeling good in my hand. IMHO I don't think Sig's aren't worth the extra $200-$300 I'd pay over a Glock. Although I do really want to try the P250.

NO!!! Every LE officer I have talked to has said to stay away from the DAK trigger and that is was made to fix a problem that wasn't there. I would simply go with the normal trigger. Every one of them has said they hated shooting the DAK trigger. Try it out some more before you jump on the bus. If you like it then great. I just don't want you to get an expensive pistol and then hate it because of a poor trigger. Let me do some polishing on the stock trigger to smooth it up or something.
The Sig P229 is a great gun. One of the best I have shot. I carried one for a couple years. It is an excellent shooter, and even feels better with a Hogue grip. If you are looking for a 9mm and want something at a little better price, I would recommend the Sig P250. I bought one at Doug's a couple weeks a go for $600, and that was the Two Tone with night sights. If you didn't want those options, it would be about $100 cheaper without night sights, and I believe the Two Tone option is about $50 or so. Plus if you are a cop or whatever you could get the $100 rebate from Sig. I love my P250. It feels great in the hand, and shoots amazing. It's a DAO model, but is amazingly smooth and easy to shoot. Hope this helps.
I tried the P250 while at Sportsman's this week and don't like the DAO. Plus the P250 felt really weird in my hand; I can't explain it, it just did. The P229 was the right fit.
Having said that, unless I can find an incredible deal on one I think I'll stick with the G19. It's a gun I know I like and I can get it for $300 less. I'll keep the Sig on my short list though.
Keep an eye on KSL.com classifieds. I have seen a few on there that are pretty good priced. I'll keep my eye out for a 9mm. There are a couple .40 S&W's on there now, but if there is a 9mm it would most likely be a pretty good price.
I've seen 9mm guns go within hours on KSL. It takes vigilance to get a decent deal on there. :lolbang:

People at GT suggested I look at a P228, whatdya think of this one:

The P228 is almost identical to the P229. The P228 will probably be hard to find, especially for a good deal since it has been discontinued. If you can find one for a good deal I would say go for it. As far as I know the P228 doesn't come with a rail on it, but you could find tons of the P229 with a rail. I guess it all depends on if that really matters to you or not. The one on KSL that you put the link up for is for $900, whereas you could find a brand new P229 for $740 or so, maybe a little cheaper. I know that Van Wagenen's in Orem usually has a better deal overall with the guns that they sell, but the guy that owns it is a major pain to deal with, and he isn't very nice. He pretty much doesn't care about being nice to anyone from what I've seen. But like I said, if you can find a P228 for a reasonable price, go for it. The P229 will be much easier to find, and I'm sure that any store like Doug's could order you one in if they didn't have it in 9mm. You might also try asking them if they have any P228's that come around in their used gun section. You just can't go wrong with a Sig in my opinion. I loved my P229 when I had it, and I love my P250 now.

What's the DAK trigger and why is it bad/good?
The DAK trigger is a double action trigger named after the guy who made it. stands for "Double Action Kellerman". Standard DA triggers fire at about 10 lbs of pressure, and the DAK fires at about 6.5, then on the follow up shot the trigger can be fired at about half the distance from its resting point.
I've never shot one so I'm not sure exactly why it would be good or bad, maybe the people who don't like it just aren't used to it.
