Ok, so summer is coming around and with it the warmer temps. I typically carry a G27 IWB, 4:30 (bianchi 3s). I find that in the summer however, it tends to print with a semi-loose T-shirt. I'm about 5'10 with a semi-athletic build...but the love handles are creeping in. What is everyone's feeling on SOB carry? Last year I tried SOB with an el cheapo uncle mikes IWB clip and I found that I was able to conceal it with a t-shirt better than IWB. If I do decide to carry SOB however, I would want a recommendation on a better holster than the uncle mike's. I bought it strictly to keep a pistol in the nightstand. I have heard some pros and cons on other sites, but quite frankly I find I get the most useful information from everyone right here...thanks! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well I've carried by bersa in a SOB once in a while. I have a SOB holster from one of the famous makers, can't remember who at this point. I like it for just the things you said, although I don't use it often. I spend a good deal of my day in a sitting position and the gun starts to leave a sore in my back. Plus I also tend to trip forward, which does a good job of revealing it often. Personally when I wear it, I feel as if I cannot protect it as well as with 4:30 positions. I know no one knows its there, but it does bother me a bit. Finally, I have always worried about getting into a fight where I am knocked onto my back. That thing sits right on the spine and I think that could end the fight real quick if it twirks something up. If I am in a business suit or situation where I want to carry the gun for quick access but I can comfortably cover it with a jacket, then I go for SOB. Its great because no matter how much the sides of my jacket show, my partners do not see any gun. Personally I leave it for situations where I need quick access, I am standing all day, and I need to hide it from the side views. But for me, I've got to 4:30 or smart carry positions and have given up on SOB for the most part. Just my two cents. :)

I have a hollow there at SOB and can conceal there well with just a T shirt. My friend is shaped flatter there and cannot. We are all shaped different. Also SOB sucks if you are sitting and driving. Pocket holster is a good option also.

I carried SOB for some time, but quit after an incident falling off a horse. Had an injury to my lower spine after landing on my gun. Since then I have heard of several similar incidents.

I carry a Bianchi #6 IWB at about 9:30 and find it conceals very well under a Tee or Hawiian shirt. If the gun marks it marks in the front and is not very noticable especially if you wear a dark color with alot of print on it.

Thanks guys. I would also only use it for quick access situations when I would be standing all day. I'm still not really sold on it though.

Dark colors definitely lesseen printing on my IWB holster, but I'm not the hawaiian shirt kind of guy...no offence to anyone who is :D

Wht is a good pocket holster? It's one of the few styles that I have never used. I have pinky extenders on my magazines, so I am sure I would need to remove them for use in it.

Thanks PW, it looks like desantis has some pretty good options. I will definitely check it out. I mean, having too many holsters is kind of like having too many guns, or too much fun without consequence right?

UTOC-45-44, thanks for the input, but I do care about printing to a certain extent. Aside from the obvious opportunity to educate the general public, and getting them used to seeing firearms, I am not a big fan of OC personally. I feel OC takes away the clear advantage of the element of surprise. I don't have any issues with others that OC, in fact I applaud them for it. It's just it's not in line with my personal carry habits. I love the element of surprise as much as I love my G27 and the right to carry it :D I had better drop the subject however as I am in jeopardy of hijacking my own thread!

Anyone have anyfeed back on the desantis "tuck-this". it can be used IWB, cross draw, or SOB with either l hooks, and j hooks (both included). it looks like an interesting option...although I generally prefer kydex or hard leather. I also saw the super fly which is a pocket holster based on the nemesis design.

About 2 months ago I was taking a batch of cookies downstairs for my wife. We were using both ovens to get the cookies done in a timely manner. I hit the 3rd-to-last step and my feet went straight up into the sky. I am confident that had I been wearing an SOB holster, I would have broken my lower spine. I laid there writhing in pain for a good 10 minutes with my entire family staring on, not knowing what to do.

Could that same thing happen to my hip while wearing an IWB holster? I think the chances are FAR less.

SOB has its places, but it is not the greatest for daily wear. Bend over and you are showing the world, fall and you could get pretty hurt from it. I would find a holster than allows you to sink the gun into your pants a bit more, or maybe a smart carry.

I'm not a big fan of the smart carry, as I just don't find it to be very comfortable. I think I will stay with IWB, and maybe a pocket carry option for the really hot days. thanks everyone.
