Student... non-Utah resident... gun purchase options

I did a quick search, but didn't quite find what I was looking for so here goes:

I am here in UT as a student. I will become a resident soon, as I will be buying a condo, re registering the car, getting a DL, etc. However, this won't be for a few more months.

For the time being, am I complete unable to buy a firearm at all in the state?

Do I need physically go back to WA just to buy it and come back?

Seems silly, like there should be more of the "full faith and confidence" and reciprocity between the two states.

For private-party deals, do I need to go through a FFL xfer and be a resident?

Anyone?

You have to be a resident of utah to buy a handgun here, but i think for a rifle and shotgun you dont need to be resident to buy one. If you want a handgun it is not illegal to get one through a private sale if you have a bill of sale for it and you dont need to go to a ffl or dealer.

It is illegal for a private party to sell a handgun to a non-resident.

I had the same issue..Kinda...

I am a student, as is my wife. but we also are here temporarily and will be moving back to Oregon. So we had no real reason to change DL/registration.

I picked up a Utah ID card since I do have a (semi) permanent address and I have proof of residence.

$18 at the Sandy Express station.
Cool! Problem Solved, I'll do that. Thanks guys!
