Taurus PT111 Pro 9mm Stainless

I've been trying to put some rounds through my new PT111 to see how it holds up. After two trips to the range, I'm only at 213. I was planning on an even 250 after today. However, while loading my 12th round, in magazine #1, I managed to roll my right thumb off the bullet and sliced it on the to of the mag. So, I took a break and walked to my truck to bandage my thumb. With the bleeding stopped, I went back and loaded 7 more rounds, in magazine #2, with my left hand. Although I wanted to finish off the ammo that I had, I decided that I would fire off the last two mags and call it good. The last thing I needed was another cut finger on my weak hand.

Right out of the box, the PT111 has been accurate. So far the rounds have been 115 grain Winchesters with no malfunctions. I have read a lot of negatives about the PT111 Pro. So I figure I'll run some ammo through it and find out for myself. For me, the Taurus fit nicely compared to other pistols that I had handled and shot, one of which threw shells back in my face (two different models of the same brand pistol) and left me with nice little half-moon-shaped carbon marks on my forehead (dang I've been running all over town with those marks on my head  ).

I've attached a picture of my last target. My first two mags are the center circle, with a fluorescent post-it note stuck in the middle. The next two mags are the top post-it. And the last two mags are the post-it on the left. All four mags shot at 14 yards.

Sweet! Let's see that pistole. Also, you might want to get a mag-loader to avoid slicing up your fingers, a small investment to protect those booger pickers - need 'em for the bang switch.
Nice review.

Is the magazine lip particularly sharp, or were you just pushing really hard?

I've had marks on my forehead before from shooting an early version of the KelTec P-3AT, which was known for sometimes throwing brass straight back. That problem is supposed to be fixed.
Nice shooting!

Good idea. I will be getting one of those!

I guess both. It really took a bite. It was the last round and the mags are stiff especially on the last cap.

The shells in the face were from two Glocks, one recently and the other a dozen or more years ago. Guess I wasn't hold'n my mouth rite. My buddy carries a Glock. And he was surprised when I told him about it.

Congratulations on an excellent purchase! Very nice groupings!
I have been a Taurus Millenium owner for over 8 years and it is my conceal weapon.
I have never had any negative impact situations or problems such as you may have heard about, or read about. I have placed over 20,000 + rounds in that time
and the gun is nice, accurate and fits nice in the hand. I have smaller hands for a guy so the grip fits just right.
As for slicing your finger on the magazine I haven't heard of anyone doing that before. Never happened to me either. They can be a bit stiff when new so perhaps it was a tight fit to start with. I can usually reload a magazine quickly, by hand (hate speed loaders) and have minimal effort in doing so--that is with lots of practice.
Anyway--glad to see someone else with my same gun on the board! Enjoy your weapon, it is a beauty!

Perhaps I need to stop washing dishes by hand (silky smooth). :lolbang: It was just one of those things when I stop and think, "did that just happen?"

That is alot of lead down range with no major problems. Good to hear!
IMO those are some excellent groups at 14 yards! Nice shooting! :pics:
Very fine shooting. A co worker has the same pistol and really enjoys it. I own two Taurus pistols and both have been flawless and accurate!
Is the mag double stack or single? My PT745 is single and I never have finger troubles however my G22 is really stiff double stack and kills trying to load the last few rounds. I do use the speed loader and it helps. Though it took me a while to figure it out. I have only had one hiccup with mine, but I think it is because of limp wristing. The last few times I have been at the range i have been getting what I think is called stovepipe? It is where the expended cartridge doesn't come all the way out and gets stuck in the breach like a stovepipe.
The mag loaders are helpful when the mag is new and stiff. The other option is (at least while you are on the range) to load the mag shy of capacity. When it starts getting difficult to load the next round, stop. There's no reason why you should beat up your hands just trying to squeeze in a few extra rounds when on the range (of course, do load to full capacity when loading self-defense ammo). As time passes, your mag springs will loosen up and loading will be less arduous.
I really love my black pt111, I can't imagine cutting myself on the mag, though I do end up with green fingers after loading them 5 times...lol

It fits so nicely in my hand, small and compact, and simple to take down and clean.

Have you read about the safety problem? On THR they talked about it, if you switch on the safety with the trigger pulled slightly (supposedly it's a noticeable amount) it will still fire, and if it's done live it can really mess up the gun.

I was going to try it out (empty) last weekend, but wouldn't you know I forgot my key (i pad lock the box right now, untill i get a safe).

Do not believe all the negative hype you read on THR about Taurus :disgusted: All three of my carry weapons are Taurus's. Well one Taurus and two Rossi's.
