There have been a bunch of great, and not-so-great, articles about guns in the wake of VT. Here's one I liked from, believe it or not, a Chicago paper (but the writer lives in Vermont which must be the reason for the insight):

That's an excellent column!

I found the story very telling of the two losers in Vermont who couldn't make headway in the rural areas trying to find victims to kill, because those homes they approached had armed residents. So they switched to Dartmouth college and murdered two unarmed professors.

The point of the column is well taken. To teach a fear of guns is to disconnect from reality ... with disastrous results.
