Ok, so I listened to the H.B. 473 Firearms Amendments recording from the floor and heard Attorney General Shurtleff spell out the legality of open carry. I thought to myself, wouldn't it be great to have a copy of this to play for anyone who questions OC legality? So.. after much pain in the ___ I got the .rm file, converted it to .mp3 and then edited out everything that didn't relate to HB 473 and open carry. I put it on my iPhone, but any mp3 player should play it just fine.

You can get the file here. [Update: new link provided and hosted by Bane - Thanks!]

Please post any other materials that you think people could use to prove OC legality (pamphlets, audio, video, photos, etc.), just don't post Utah State Code, we all know it's not directly stated in there, so don't clutter the topic with that.

Enjoy!

Wow wonderful. I had lost track of how this process is going. I sure hope this goes all through and becomes a good clarification. I'm so tired of LEO telling me that its illegal and that they are the only ones who can open carry. Having these definitions would truly project OC and keep it from being such an issue right now. It will also force instructors like the one I had to admit that OC is legal and not lie to their students. Nice mp3. I'll have to copy this off to my MP3 player and keep it with me. I feel like e-mailing this sound byte to every Law Enforcement agency in the state.

Dave: Great work! I don't know how serious this other suggestion would come across... that letter from the USAG giving his professional opinion would sure help... if only he would write it! I'm sure we'll re-elect him this year... I'm curious if he'll do it then???

Whip: Actually that bill got killed -- it was hijacked at the last minute by the Rep. from St. George who attached an amendment to it that made it an anti-gun bill. Senator Waddoups, one of the bill's original authors who is also in the rules committee, then brought it back into committee and sat on it until it expired. It's too bad it had to come to that but it was the Senator's only way of protecting us from a bill that amounted to gun control... :(

This is why I got involved this year to help ensure Sen. Waddoups get's re-elected.

Great work guys. Having friends like this in the gun comunity helps protect our gun right. I really aprieciate all the hard work people on this board do to help our cause.

Edit: I love how Clark explained the laws. Very well put!! Defiantly will be putting this on my cell and using it in nurture presentations on concealed/open carry.

A letter from the AG would be great (would need to be a PDF scan of the original to hold any weight). I know SGT. Jensen and TJ met with the AG at the last convention, perhaps they would feel comfortable asking him for one? Perhaps we could even utilize Clark Aposhian to get a letter for us?

Just so you know I tried to download the file and I got a filtered from my company's over sensitive server. :(

It says no file sharing.

I'm not sure that a PDF scan in your pocket really "carries any weight"... any more than carrying a photocopy of the laws does... it offers good evidence that you might be right, but it wouldn't stand as proof that the document isn't a phoney one you created... it's very easy to create a PDF from a Word Doc that you yourself typed up and I'm sure the AG's signature is somewhere online and you can just cut and paste it...

PS: I am definitely not suggesting anyone actually do this... I'm just pointing out that it's easy to do so a copy in one's pocket would only be good info, not legal defense.

Same here... I would be willing to host the original on my personal server if Dave wouldn't mind emailing it to me... my account can accept up to a 50GB file so it shouldn't be a problem... I'll PM you my email addy...

I think the audio may carry more weight than a paper because the audio would be harder to fake. IMO

Dave, I sent you the link!

This is an open invite to everyone here too... if anyone needs space to upload files for the board on a server that is very unlikely to be blocked by people's works, etc, let me know... in fact, if there is enough interest by those here, I might just create a forum account publicly open to anyone that comes to the board to get the login credentials... but I'm not sure how much interest there is in that so I'll hold off for now...

When I converted this file from MP3 to WMA (more compatible with my pocket pc) it shrank way down to just over 2mb. I'll send this file to bane if anybody's interested in a 'lighter' version.

The newer version is 6.4MB (I took it down to 64kbps from 192kbps). I am sure it can go smaller than this - but I didn't want to make it difficult to understand and I wanted to keep it in stereo to play from both speakers/headphones. WMA is nice, but doesn't work with iTunes/iPod (if you use that). The mp3 that is currently being hosted also has tag information built in for playback on Apple devices. Enjoy!

Maybe I'm and idiot, but I don't know how to download the file or where to get it. When I clicked on the link it only brought up the quicktime player and played the file. If any of you can help me to get this downloaded I would greatly appreciate it. I would love to put it on my phone and play it for any non believer. :yell:
