Trading in guns at gun shops

I'm curious if trading in a gun towards another gun at a gun shop is worth it or just asking to lose alot of money. Is it better to just sit on the gun while you try to sell it on KSL? Does anyone have experience trading into the shops around the valley?

You can probably expect to lose at least 20% or more of the value on a gun shop trade in. The advantage is that it's quick and easy and goes directly to your gun purchase. KSL is good, but by the time you account for packing and shipping or meeting someone for the exchange and the hassle of posting it, you might come out even.
It's just like trading in a car. They will typically give you around 50% (or less) of what they could turn around and sell it for.

I bought a Ruger M77 MKII with a Nikon scope for about $700 total (new). When I sold it 6 months later, the best deal I could get was $325 from a gun shop. You will do MUCH better selling the thing in the classifieds. I bought an XD45 Tactical for $500 and sold it a month later for $450 to a private party.
If you have a popular gun (Glock, Sig, XD, HK, beretta, S&W, etc) and price it right it will go Fast (under 6 hours)on KSL. If you overprice it then it will stick around for 1-3 weeks before sale. If you WAY over price it then it will be there until you pull the ad.

If you have a no-name (or just uncommon) gun then you might want to trade it in unless it is less than $200. I would still post it on KSL and see... but after a few days the trade in starts looking good.

I had a buddy with a glock 19, trade in value: $285, KSL (sold in under 15 minutes) $395
Same guy had a Starfire (forget the model), Trade in value: $195, KSL (almost 90 days later, listed fror $250) $225
I can't believe that somebody hasn't asked the obvious question!
What do you want to sell and how much?

I know! Its a HK P2000 9mm Bought it a week ago, like it, but find myself missing my glock 26 so I'm wanting to get rid of the P2000 to get back into a 26. As to how much I dont really care as long as its fair. :dunno:

G
I'll give you $50 cash money for it

They run over 700 new I guess. So maybe ask between 600-650. What do I know. I can imagine for trade in, the most you would get is $600. I got 80% of what I paid once for trade in and was probably lucky to get that.
