I find it interesting just as I am about to head back to the great state of Utah that I find a legal battle over right to carry on Utah Universities. Now the reason I find this strange is because we are in the same fight here in Oregon.

What is it that make these beuracrats believe even though the governing body of the state tells them there rules are not legal they can continue to publish and attempt to enforce them?

The "Spokesman" is the once honorable Jake Garn who feels they shouldn't follow laws if they don't agree with them..

The next.. Well they actually argue that the first amendment protection of "Freedom of Speech" is in peril if a law abiding student or employee is armed. Other will feel intimidated. Like the First amendment supercedes the second amendment.

It's all a bunch of hooey. It is just a creative means of pushing Gun Control. They know that if they loose this fight for even "now until the next legislator can fix this" Then the lie they have been telling will be exposed, because nothing will happen except maybe some Bad Guy may get tagged thus supporting our point.

This opinion (mine) plus $1.35 will get you a ride one way on a UTA bus.

Thanks to utah SB48, the university can no longer restrict an individual from legally carrying a firearm, without the states authority to do so, which the U of U will never get. They can sure as heck try, but when it comes down to it, they will now lose. I celebrated by walking around the campus with my concealed carry. It was a nice little stroll.

I am a employe at the University of Utah I choose to carry my concealed firearm permit where ever I go on campus. Even though the University tries to threaten their employes into being a target I refuse to allow myself or my family to become a victim of a Rule they try force upon their employes and students. I know that everyday could be my last day of employment if I ever had to defend myself or my family however I think my life and my family is more important. I refuse to allow the University to reward crimnals with the knowledge that they now have free rain of the campus.

My hat is off to you. Be sure to keep it well concealed. Stay safe and employed.

BTW, I assume that you not only carry your concealed firearm permit, but you also carry your concealed firearm as well. I just had to chuckle a bit when you worded it that way, because the original ruling upholding the University's ban by 3rd District Judge Robert Hilder (U. gun ban back in court) contained a ridiculous assertion from the activist judge as reported in the article:
...
The appeal to the Utah Supreme Court will focus on a narrow issue arising out of Hilder's ruling -- the judge's finding that the U.'s policy does not invalidate concealed-weapons permits, it just does not allow the weapons themselves to be carried on campus.
...

Gunsfreak, I applaud you!! I too am an employee of the university of Utah & have also carried since the legislature made it more than legal to do so. I am very much offended by the way the U. has treated this whole affair. Our own employee handbook states that we have every right of citizens, then it takes away our rights within a couple of paragraphs! Preposterous! Sounds like a Hate Crime if I ever saw one!
It is certainly offensive to know that our institutes of higher learning are so prejudiced, and have to resort to outright lies & manipulation, as well as stone-walling tactics to eliminate lawful gun carrying citizens their rights. I consider these attempts by the U to be every bit a violation of my first ammendment rights as I do my 2nd, 7th, 9th & 14th ammendment rights.
Furthermore, it is absolutely appalling that our state supreme court has delayed for nearly a year on this issue. They ought to be ashamed!
Gunsfreak, again I say Hoo-Rah & I wish you well & pray we both stay safe.
:)
