I am not normally one to pass along info I get via email but this one was just too good to pass up.

URINE TEST…
Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work, my employer pays me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I Do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who Don't have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their BUTT, doing drugs, while I work. . . .

Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Would be nice. When I lived in CA, I believe at that time and maybe still, it was the state to go to if you wanted un-employment benefits, or whatever. I saw at my apt. complex lots of people at the pool everyday.

Interesting proposition. What would you do if a drug addict on welfare failed the test?

Send them to prison? Prison is A LOT more expensive than a welfare check and would result in more hardened criminals (anyone watch Prison Nation?).

Cut off their payment? Now you'll have more crime - gotta steal now to get their fix.

Require treatment? This is also very expensive and would be on the taxpayer's dime. And I doubt there are enough drug centers in the nation to take care of all the drug addicts receiving assistance in Utah.

It's a tough question and one to which there isn't a very good answer. The best bet is to do a better job at cutting off the drug sources and educating younguns.

If you really want to have an affect on the drug problem, just poison the drug source. A couple hundred thousand dead crack addicts would go a long way toward stemming the drug problem.

I hope that you're kidding with this one. In written posts, it is often hard to distinguish seriousness from sarcasm.

While I agree that I don't want to have my income confiscated by the government to pay to dope addicts to support their self-destructive behavior, there must be ways to help at least some of them out of that life-style. It's not an easy problem.

Pardon me if my sense of humor is off-kilter at the moment. I confess that I'm on pain-killers at the moment because I'm recovering from some surgery. However, don't anybody get the idea that we're defenseless in my home because of this. I'm not the only one that carries in my family ... even right in the home.

I'm not serious that it should be done - I wouldn't wish that on anybody. But it definitely would have a big impact. Several years ago there was a shipment of drugs that was tainted and the deaths and retribution killings made it easy for authorities to follow the delivery chain up and down. It resulted in some major drug busts.

The DEA played around with some scenarios of what would happen if they tainted the drug supply at a high level. They determined that a poisoned drug supply would VERY quickly lead them to major distributors, dealers, trafficking operations, etc. But of course the morals of this are just plain wrong.

Sorry for taking this thread so far off topic.

I like the cut off the hand idea that they did/do in other countries. 3 offence… cut off the hand. If they don’t want to go that far maybe a finger or even a tattoo on the forehead. Make the punishment bad enough and crime/drug use would lessen. Give a free paycheck and well, just look around.
