I've been wondering whether anyone here knows whether or not the wait-time for a CC permit is decreased at all when the applicant already holds a security clearance from recently being discharged from the military??? I realize there is nothing in the law to "expedite" the process due to such status, but does having a clearance make doing the background checks easier and thus faster???

For what it's worth, I've noted comments by several people on various forums to the effect that when they received their permits, the accompanying letter stated the permit was valid pending a favorable background check by the FBI.

I was in a little different situation than government clearance. I had a permit here in Utah that previously expired and it still took the full time to process me even though I was still in the system. My permit had only been expired 2 years.

I was told that they process them in order and that the majority of the wait time was spent just sitting there waiting for your turn. Once it was your turn the process is actually pretty fast, except for the FBI part which the BCI has no control over.

I just barely got mine and it took right around 2 months to get in the mail. They are really improving the response time. I don't know if this would apply to you, but if you have a restraining order against someone or some other type of eminent threat to your life, you can go down to the BCI and they will process your application on the spot. It didn't apply to me, but I know others who have used this expedited process.

It takes so long because your application sits in a box for 59.5 days and then 5 minutes before the end of the day on the 59th day they type your info into the computerized form and print out your permit then mail it to you. But they are a lot better now then in the past, especially if you are a Utah resident.

I don't think having a security clearance makes any difference to their process.

All reports I'm reading do indicate that the turn-around time is improving, so that's good news.

I almost hate to mention that back when I applied for my permit, about 4 years ago (I hand-delivered it, hoping to speed up the process), that I got my permit in the mail in ten (yes, 10) days. You read that right.

The second time I renewed my permit I delivered it by hand. I asked how long I should expect to wait and the guy went into the back room and came back out less than 5 minutes later with my new permit. Of course that was a renewal and back in '99 so things were different.

According to BCI Utah permits for Utah residents are now delivered within 60 days but out of state people still have longer to get theirs.
Renews are a different animal.

Who told you 100 days? The official time limit is 60 business days (roughly 90 calendar days). In the past, and perhaps now, the wait time has been longer due to too many applicants and not enough funding. Hopefully your permit won't take 100 days, but until you do get it, get a holster and carry at home. Wear your holster every day, everywhere (minus the gun), to get used to it and when you are home, practice your draw and tactical reloading. Best wishes and welcome to the community!

It was almost 4 months for me. I applied in June and didn't receive it until end of Sept. That's for a regular Utah resident.

I guess they've recently hired a few more people, though, so maybe it will be less now.

I got mine in 81 calender days. It was probably like 60 something biz days but I didn't count those.

I submitted my application in person at BCI. The woman at the window who took my $$$ and app is the one who told me to expect a 100 day turn around.

Thanks for the welcome - I have been carrying at home and am very pleased at the thought of being able to carry everywhere I go once my permit arrives.

Huh... I submitted mine on 22OCT and was told to give it about 60 days... and according to BCI's website that looks roughly correct... as of today they are currently processing apps from the week of 9SEP.

I've told Contagious on another site, but I was also told 100 days, but somehow managed to get it back in about 30 actual days, not business days. I think that may have been due to the fact that I messed up the paperwork. I filed it and got it back in the mail about a week later informing me that I had forgot to fill out something. I filled it out and took it back in the next day. About 30 days after that I had it in my mailbox. Perhaps the lady at the window stuck it in a different pile which may have been further in line? Who knows for sure. I was just glad it didn't take as long as they had informed me.
