You sending letters to Utah County area as well? Good! PM/E-mail those agencies you send to just so I know to double up there as well and make sure my letters are going to the same, give them a combination "punch."
No no no... sorry for the confusion
I'm making a list of all the addresses to; Chief/Sheriff names, numbers, and links to websites for all LEO offices in all of Utah.
Once I get all the offices in Utah county the rest of the list should go faster.

With the list we can all (who ever wants to help) mail letters to all of them and help them understand the law about OC/CC, and hope they pass down the info to their police force.

Ah! Okay, my bad.

I just received my first return e-mail from the ten letters I sent out to Law Enforcement Agencies and a private firearms company. This one is from Mike Stilwell, owner of Range Masters of Utah, LC:
Thank you for your letter--I just received it today. As you already
know, you are correct on all counts pertaining to open carry. I am not
sure why the staff at the range told you 21--I hope they mis-understood
the question, but they could have easily just screwed-up. Open carry
laws have also recently been discussed as house bills to give us some
better understanding for open carry, as well as trying to get CCP
holders access to carry in National Parks/Monuments. As far as my
personal feelings of open carry--If I had the choice to be a sheep (no
firearm) and to open carry--I would open carry in every instance.

I appreciate your time and I hope you get your permit soon (I believe in
class you were waiting to turn 21) and if you need anything please let
me know. Take care and stay safe, ms

<Phone Numbers Edited>

"...As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body, and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks."

Thomas Jefferson
I hope all the letters that I get back from police chiefs and others are just as positive.

I'm glad to hear that you have received a letter back Outsider! That's cool that it was a positive experience. I hope the others come back the same and we can get as many people as possible informed so we don't have any problems in the future!

....I was looking for information on Open Carry and had asked four State Troopers, two Utah County Deputies, and an employee at Range Masters of Utah. None gave me correct information and all gave different answers on OC.....
what a freakin JOKE. I understand how it is helpful for us to know the statutes and our own limitations by heart - but WHY don't our LEOs know the law they are enforcing?! Backwards and forwards? I dont think that is too demanding...Thats just incredulous!

we expect to take L.E. seriously? They don't even know what their talking about!

There are a TON of laws they have to know, and I can't expect them to know all of them. However it should be as simple as calling a supervisor and getting informed of the correct law, and for some reason :dunno: that is not the case :disgusted: .

Yes, there are many laws that LEO need to know and understand. And like ALL of US the ones they deal with the most are the ones they know the best (read this as Traffic code). I use "resource people" in my profession for clarification ect. The weak part of clarification is that I have to ask the correct question to get the correct answer.
We have an entire culture that does not fully understand the laws or lack of laws. In time, we will succeed in our goal of having LEO's and those that train them better versed in Utah's Gun laws.
I guess we have to be patient and teach when we can....
And when Kindness and Gentle Persuation does not work... USE THAT BIG STICK to get their attention so we can whisper to them and have them understand... LOL
Just my 2 bits.
