When I first got my permit I was very careful to conceal at ALL times. Now I open carry 95% of the time.

I was driven like a lot of people here to get my CFP after that whack job went into Trolley Square. GOD BLESS OFFICER HAMMON!!

I did not know any laws regarding carry of any kind until I got my permit and found you. Now I have the confidence I need to carry my gun with me everywhere I go ALWAYS. I am fortunate enough to carry at work also. :D My boss is fully aware that I carry and does not have any problems with it. :crown:

So WHY??? When I first started to carry it was 90% protection 10% political. Now I carry 90% political and 10% protection. Don't get me wrong...protecting my family and people around me (God forbid) is #1, but I want to "spread the word". I have yet to have a negative encounter. I have been able to tell people and share with them many things that I have learned here. I always tell people about UCC and OCDO.

I love living in a country that allows us to do what we do and should do ALWAYS.

Because you want to protect their rights because they aren't doing it themselves. I bought a gun to protect my family and then I heard of UCC and OCDO as well and have done the same, want to "spread the word" and let everyone know "their God given rights." Yeah something like that.

I OC a lot, and am glad to "spread the word" but I still carry for defense not politics. I OC due to convenience and comfort, If I make a statement while OC-ing it just makes it that much better.

I cook a little slower than you do.

I have had my permit for about 9 years now and at first I was not even aware that there was a possibility of open carry. I knew that you could not open carry a loaded firearm on any city street, and that you could carry openly un-loaded, but I thought of carrying to or from a gun store or the like, but not general carry.

I was always careful to keep my gun concealed and never worried about carrying it openly. Then I found OCDO and I thought that it would be nice to not have to conceal all the time.

As I have continued to learn I now go for propriety, comfort and convenience. I carry mostly concealed, because, in my case propriety dictates that. When I am not at work I go for a combination of propriety and comfort, with comfort being the dominant factor. About half the time when I am not at work I carry openly and half concealed.

For a variety of reasons, I cannot be political about my decisions on how I carry, but I am very grateful for those of you who can and are.

With your CFP you can carry loaded on a street.

For my own present circumstances, I agree with Tarzan's sentiments above.

I know this.

I do open carry, when the circumstances dictate, but I do not do it as a political statement, for reasons I am not at liberty to discuss.

I too started out always CC unless I was camping/hiking. I first found OCDO after I got my permit, and I now intend to OC more as a political statement. But I would never say that the political statement I am making takes precedence over my 1st priority of protecting my self/family/others around me. Also I have nothing but respect for those who OC all or most of the time. Gun rights have become a more important topic for me ever since I got my cfp, and I am always willing to share my beliefs about them to all I know anytime. So I guess I would say I have become more political since getting my permit, and OCing in public is just one more step in that direction, but I still carry CC or OC for protection.

The #1 is still protection however, what are the odds that any one of us on these forums will need to use their firearm to defend? I know a couple of LEO's that have over 40 years between them and neither one has shot someone. They have drawn their weapons more than once but to compare us to them is apples to oranges in the respect of whom and what they deal with vs. whom and what we deal with. So it has to turn back to politics for the most part. What are the odds that one of us is going to get into a confrontation with an anti? Like I said I have had no negative encounters but I know they are coming. Again thanks to the people in these forums I welcome it. I have the tools to defend our rights.

I have enjoyed reading your takes on this. I hope to see a bit more input throughout the week.
