Last friday night, I decided I would OC my Beretta 92, which is what I've been doing lately. My wife and I have a regular date, and I usually go home after work and strap a holster on my hip and leave my concealed somewhere... concealed. I've talked to my wife about OCing, and she is comfortable with me doing it and prepared for the possible LEO encounter.

So we went to dinner, to the shooting range in Orem, and were going to get a treat somewhere. As we were cleaning up at the range, she decided to strap her holster to her hip, and OC her Beretta also! That being the case, I told her we had to stop by Wal Mart first .

At first, not being used to carrying other then at the range, she said "This thing is huge!" She was very self-conscious about the gun at first, sure that it was the only thing everyone around her could see. So we wandered around WalMart in Lindon for a whil, and after a few moments, she said "O.k., I'm over it." I asked her what she meant, and she said what all of us who have OCed know: 96% of people don't even notice. Kids/teenagers who notice don't care. Adult guys who notice act like "Oh. A gun. Cool." and the few "housewives" who notice are the only ones to have a negative reaction which consists mostly of quickly walking in the other direction. She OCed for a couple hours as we shopped, tried on shorts, etc. before going home to get the kids from the babysitters. Other than the lady in the toy section that ran into my wife a couple times and quickly ran away, there were no encounters.

I actually thought I was going to have an LEO encounter in WalMart. I was waiting outside the fitting room while my wife was trying on shorts. I saw somebody wearing jeans and a t-shirt walk up with his wife, who was also going to try something on. I noticed a Glock in a holster on his belt, and then the Sheriff's Department star next to it. I thought "This could get interesting." About then, my wife asked me to put some shorts back that didn't work, so I stood up and walked right by the Sheriff. As I walked by him, I could see in my peripheral vision that he spotted my Beretta, and followed it/me with his gaze as I walked past. I went about my business and came back and stood by the fitting rooms again, fully expecting the Sheriff to say something. He didn't. He stood there for a few more minutes, then his wife came out and they walked off. :dunno:

Earlier in the night at dinner, I had a slight "encounter." I was sitting at the table eating, and someone came up to me and said "Excuse me, are you involved with law enforcement?" I said I was not. I was somewhat hesitant at this point, because it could have gone either way: "I noticed you were open carrying. Cool." Or "you have a gun and I'm calling the cops." Thankfully, it went the first way. The guy told me there was a website called "opencarry.org" which I told him I had heard of, and he thanked me for open carrying.

Now that I think about it, I wonder how much influence that had on my wife's decision to OC? :lolbang:

Sounds like a great "Date Night"...

Any chance on getting at least one more detail.. which Beretta does she carry? I am being drawn to a Px4, but so far have resisted the urge, but this weeks paycheck is begging to leave my wallet any time I get anywhere near a store... :nilly:

The Px4 is a great gun, and the sub-compact version is supposed to be out later this year. That's the one that will have me like this: :nilly:

My wife actually has two Berettas: She conceals her 21a Bobcat (.22LR), and on Friday she was OCing her 92FS (polished stainless version :lol2: ).

Way to go!!! Maybe my wife will OC with me some day. First I will have to OC more with her. The first time I ODed with her she couldn't find me, and thought I had been taken to the managers office. We might OC to the Open Carry Meet.
