Winchester .44 Mag Lever Target

Shot this target at the LeeKay center today. It's a Winchester .44 Mag lever-action rifle with iron sights - no scope.

Shot from 100 yards. This will be my elk hunting gun this year.

Tapehoser,

Great shooting for no optics! I am one of those rare individuals who do not like to use optics-for a few different reasons, so I can appreciate good shooting when I see it. It is all about the challenge for me.
You said you did this with a .44 Winchester. I know that Henry Rifles were the original precursor to the Winchester and I have been thing of getting a Henry Big Boy .44/.45. I know it has a brass receiver, and I have been told that this wouldn't be a good purchase because brass receivers heat up too easily and cause problems. Do you have any insight on this that may be of assistance to me? Or Any one else for that matter? I really like the look of the octagonal barrelled Henry lever action and want to get one. But if something like a regular Winchester .44 is a better choice, I could just as easily purchase one of those. By the way, what did you pay for your Winchester?
Thanks,
Robie

I wouldn't worry about that. That brass is probably only a coupla 16th's thick. The inards are what you care about.

Just to give you more confidence, another note about my shooting trip.

When using my Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag, after firing all rounds and waiting as much as 60 seconds, the brass is STILL too hot to handle.

But after shooting HOT .44 Mag loads through the Winchester rifle, I can eject the brass immediately and hold it in my hand without any ill effects. It feels slightly warm, but nowhere near hot.

The Winchester I shoot is a '1894-1994' Anniversary edition and is nearly as purty as any Henry I've ever seen.
Tapehoser,

Thanks for the feedback, I'll consider this as I continue to research for my next purchase-hopefully at the Gun Show on the 17th & 18th of this month.
I appreciate your comments.
