Do any of you XD fans know a trick to keep my pinky from getting pinched when shooting my subcompact XD with the full-size mag and mag "x-tension?" I noticed it didn't happen when using the short, 10-round mag.
Also, does anybody have any experience with the Pearce grip extension on the short mags? I was contemplating buying one of them, but I wonder if it will pinch my finger in the same spot as the mag x-tension.

Sounds like the key to solving the pinky pinch is use the short 10rnd mag

I would go with the Pearce over the x-tension. I have really only heard good things about the pearce extentions.

 or just get a glock and avoid the whole issue.

What exactly is getting pinched and when? When you shoot? When you reload? How are you pinching your finger?

The Pearce Extensions are good and you can get one for your 10 rd mag for under $10. SGT Jensen is right, they will make your pistol grip larger, but only on the front side. It's a compromise between being able to control recoil and being able to adequately conceal the firearm. If you feel you can control the recoil with the 10 rd mags, by all means use them. But if you need an extra finger to assure you get a good shooting grip on the gun, a Pearce grip might be your answer. I would recommend using the extended mags for reloads (spare mags) or at the range, they're not really practical for concealed carry.

Another thought... if you are able to cant your holster forward enough, the added length of a Pearce grip may not be noticeable. Just a thought :)

I have shot plenty with the extended mag and never been pinched with it yet. I wonder if there is something wrong with yours???

The tip of my pinky is what's getting pinched, between the bottom of the grip and top of the x-tension, when shooting. It is probably just the way I grip the gun, and I can try to adjust it. The idea of the short grip is to make it more concealable, yes, but as the good dr. says, with enough forward cant it shouldn't make much difference. I think I will buy one and experiment with it. The other idea I haven't tried yet is shooting with the full-size mag and no mag x-tension. Dang, I guess I have to go shoot some more! :)

Maybe a good pair of gloves are in order? I like the tight fitting mechanics gloves that you can get at auto and hardware stores for 25-30 bucks.

I have never understood the whole pinky extension thing. The whole point of having a shorter handle is to easier conceal the gun. By adding the extension, you effectively reduce the ability to conceal that firearm.
I like having the flexibility. I can use a 10-rd mag without extension and have a much smaller grip for when concealment is really important. In other cases where concealment isn't as important, I can put a 16-rd mag in there and have both more ammo and a better grip. I practice with both, obviously.

I recently got a SmartCarry and with that holster, I find my XD9 SC is actually better-concealed with the extended mag. With the SmartCarry, the only part of my gun that prints at all is the edge of the butt. The small mag puts that line in a strange position to the left of my right pants pocket, but the extended mag puts it in my pocket area, in a location where it's not at all unusual to see various small bulges. With my IWB and belly band holsters it goes the other way -- the short mag is more concealable.
