Hey guys,

I've noticed that the XD45 Compact is a popular piece on UCC and am considering this as my next purchase. I currently carry a Kahr CW45 which I really like despite its strange (to me) trigger pull, but it does leave something to be desired in the area of capacity. 6+1 just isnt enough.

I used to own an XD40 and Im curious how the grip differs from the 40 to the 45. As a recovering Glock-aholic I know that the grip circumference has a potential to get much larger in the .45 range.

So maybe this is just a pic request. If you have pictures of your XD45C compared to anything else that would give me a good frame of reference please throw 'em up!

Thanks

The grip on the XD45 is exactly the same as the grip on the XD40. I just measured the difference between my XD45 compact and my wife's XD40 Sub. The width of the grips (measured from side to side at the base of the mag well on the exterior) is 1 3/16". The length of the grips (measured from front to back at the mag well, not slide to base of mag well) is 2 1/8". The difference is in the thickness of the mag well on the interior. The XD40 has a thicker grip, or narrower mag well, as compared to the XD45. The XD45's magazine is 15/16" wide, where as the XD40's magazine is 13/16". I would take pictures, however we are in the process of moving and my camera is boxed up. Hope this helps.

I thought a contrast to something besides other XD's might be beneficial as well. I hope these pictures come out OK. From top to bottom, left to right, they are a Ruger Super Blackhawk with Pachmayr "Grippers", A Taurus Model 60 with Hogue Monogrip, and the XD45 Compact:

The XD is shown with the extended magazine (13 rd.) just so you can see the thickness a little better. I have pretty large hands (6'2"/190 lb). From the tip of my middle finger to the first wrinkle of my wrist is 8" long. I rarely meet someone with larger hands than me. The Blackhawk grip seems a little thinner than the XD, but is actually about 1 1/4" thick. The Taurus is also 1 1/4 " thick. The XD grips are about 1 1/8" thick. I think the Hogue and Pachmayr seem thinner simply because they are actually molded to fit my palm better, whereas the XD is a standard thickness, without any palm or finger variations.

Hope that helps.
