Image and upload restrictions

Any chance we can get some of the image restrictions (and maybe upload restrictions) relaxed a little bit? Currently, if you try to embed an image, it gets past 800 pixels and tells you to bugger off. People around here don't do stupid stuff, so can that restriction be relaxed? I have a particular high-res project in mind that I'd like to get the forum involved in and this would hamper it drastically. Perhaps either remove it or set it to something ridonculous like 2048 pixels wide?

While I agree people around here "generally" don't do stupid things. Paul has a bandwidth issue to consider, and possibly even contract restrictions with Go-Daddy. Of course, I don't know the details, so it's possible he might be able to do something in between 800 pixels and 2048. We really need Paul or Jeff to chime in here and let us know if it's feasible or not.

embedded images do not affect utahconcealcarry.com's bandwidth. that's handled by the end user. Only attached images affect the bandwidth.

utahjarhead,
We are going to leave it as set. I know you say people around here don't do stupid stuff, but unfortunately thats not true :)
You are welcome to post a link to an external hosting site with whatever image it is you want to share.

I recommend setting up a free dropbox account. If you have one already make a new one with a different address. Then share the folder with anyone you want to be able to access that folder. Warning to any who do share it to an existing dropbox account the space is taken up out of both dropbox accounts because the data is synced not linked. Also If you don't have one PM me your email and I will send you an invite that will get us both an extra 500MB in the account for free.

I use imgur.com. the issue is that the forums retrieve the image and checks the width and then says no if it's (currently) over 800 pixels wide. It's not an issue about where it's hosted.

I hate grainy photos where you can't see much detail... I recommend using photobucket...
Enjoy!!!

Is that Lee Kay? I don't know what it looks like, so I have no idea.

Also, I hate Photobucket. It works in a embedding environment, but I hate that it loads a full webpage any time you want to view a single picture. I still like IMGUR. :)

Dropbox wouldn't really be a place to host the image just an alternate way to store and share them. It may not be best for images you wasn't to post but if you need to just share a lage image with someone outside of the forum parameters you could.
