Adding functionality

Postby AlanM » Wed 04 Dec 2013 9:42 am

Could the powers that be please add the functionality to the forums?
It doesn't add any overhead to post size and it give you (admin) control over the size of the presentation as seen by the user.

This format works to embed a youtube video however size can be changed by the poster.
{flash=600,480]http://www.youtube.com/v/20RoAfflGCM&hl=en&fs=1[/flash}
The {} should be [] for it to really display.

I was under the impression this was already enabled on the site; see viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4209

Carry guns are like work trucks: who cares if they get beat up a little as long as they work when you need them to.

That's the "flash" work around. There is a "youtube" option on all the other phpBB forums I frequent.
I wasn't aware of the "flash" method until today.

I'm not sure what the difference is between your example and the explanation I gave in the referenced post. Can you please elaborate?

Simple, that flash workaround is lengthy (especially for those not strong on their script-fu). Whereas when the Youtube option is avail it's a simple set of brackets similar to a URL. This page explains it better and is probably where you need to go to figure out how to add the capability.

The [flash] tag is awful. I can't get it to work without going to find an example or dig up the tutorial post. Not only that, but the format changed at one point a year or so ago. Then you have to manipulate the URL before you can add it to the [flash] tag.

The tag just takes the standard URL and figures out what the video is and embeds it automatically, but still ALLOWING (but not requiring) extra parameters to resize, etc.
