A couple of forum members asked for a sticky thread to have definitions of terms and acronmyms that we use on the forum. That's a good idea, so I went to the old archived PDO glossary page to resurrect many of the definitions that used to be available there. I've also added some and will continue to do so as people ask for additions.

Glossary
  • +1

    [/*]
  • +P, +P+

    [/*]
  • 4 Rules of Gun Safety

    2) Never point the gun at something you don't want holes in
    3) Finger off the trigger until the sights are on the target
    4) Know your target and what is behind it

Memorize these rules and follow them anytime you are near firearms. Then teach or remind those who do not follow them.

    [/*]
  • Accidental Discharge (AD)
An unexpected and undesirable discharge of a firearm caused by circumstances beyond the control of the participant(s) such as a mechanical failure or parts breakage. There are very, very few firearms related "accidents" and if the "4 Rules" are followed there will hopefully be no injury. See Negligent Discharge.

Such term does not include shotgun shot required by... game regulations for hunting purposes, a frangible projectile designed for target shooting, a projectile which the Secretary finds is primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes, or any other projectile or projectile core which the Secretary finds is intended to be used for industrial purposes, including a charge used in an oil and gas well perforating device."

The five-day waiting period has now been replaced with an instant check system, which can be extended to three days when the results of the check are not clear.

I went through the first few pages for each forum and found the following, plus a few more that could be added. I don't want it to get so long it isn't useful. And I wouldn't add specific, proper name abbreviations (e.g., LCP, XD, etc.).

Nice! It might be easier to separate them into abbreviations and other terms.

I went through the first few pages for each forum and found the following, plus a few more that could be added. I don't want it to get so long it isn't useful. And I wouldn't add specific, proper name abbreviations (e.g., LCP, XD, etc.).

Thanks!! Great additions. I folded them into the OP.

I have grouped the above into two MS Word files, one for Acronyms and the other for words and phrases. If anyone would like a copy of my files to make a hard copy from, or just to have on your computer, please send me your email address and I will be happy to mail them to you.

Here's another one that could be added:

  • Made, Getting Made, or Got Made
When somebody notices your concealed firearm. For example, "I was getting nachos at Walmart and got made by the guy behind me in line."[/*]
Good addition. So, I updated the OP to add the following:
  • BBL or bbl
    Short-hand for barrel

    [/*]
  • Getting Made, or Got Made
When somebody notices your concealed firearm. For example, "I was getting nachos at Walmart and got made by the guy behind me in line."[/*]

+1
IMHO this will help a ton. My being a NOOB and all, it cleared up some confusion for me already. I'm glad I found UCC, I have learned a great deal in the short time I've been on here. I now OC and CC, where before I thought I had to CC with my CFP. I'm happy to be a MWAG. Just remember that IANAL.

J/K. No really all kidding aside, great job. This helps.

What is RAS?, as in, ocing is not an RAS for a stop. It's not in the glossary!

Please add MWAG - man with a gun.
It took me a few minutes and a couple different posts, but I eventually figured it out.
