This bill would establish a pilot program to teach 8th graders about firearm safety in public schools, specifically,
Students would have to have parent/guardian permission before receiving instruction, and firearms cannot be used while providing the instruction. The pilot program would have a sunset date of July 1, 2019.
- A course described in 53A-13-106, which includes
- Developing the knowledge, habits, skills, and attitudes necessary for the safe handling of firearms; and[/*]
- Helping students avoid firearm injuries[/*]
- What to do if the student becomes aware of a threat against the school; and[/*]
- Active shooter preparedness[/*]
