Arizona Permit Application

Postby Wrangler_dave9 » Mon 29 Feb 2016 8:36 pm

Howdy Folks,

I recently requested and received a Application for an Arizona Concealed Permit. Based on what I'm reading in AZ statutes, The fact that I have a Utah permit is enough to satisfy AZ's training requirement. However, I'm not seeing where on the application I can list that I have a Utah permit and forgo the signature from a "Firearms Instructor". Any help would be appreciated.

Several years ago when I made my application for AZ's permit they were kind enough to include in the instructions a sample of just this part Using a person with a Utah permit and how they should complete the application..... Did they not continue this?

If memory is correct--- include a copy of your UTAH permit, the required fingerprint cards, the required monetary fee and the completed application--- all mailed to the address provided and expect to receive your very own Az permit in return mail in a little bit....

One "odd" thing---- Az does not require a permit to conceal for MOST concealed locations but the permit specifies that with the permit when concealing one must have both the permit in immediate possession but also a gov issued photo ID.

I did notice this part.

My main reason for getting the AZ permit is so I can carry in Nevada. My wife enjoys going to Vegas and I would be fine to go more often, if I could carry there.

Same reason I got mine. Then NV quit recognizing the AZ permit, so I got the ID enhanced permit then NV resumed accepting the AZ permit.

I wish I would have known they accepted it again, I went three more times to Vegas for work since they re-recognized it in June. :disgusted:

I looked at the fee schedule last night. A new permit is $60. Permit renewal is $43.

I was able to sit down and actually read through the AZ permit application. There is a section that reads if you are using another state's permit, to simply attach a copy of it to your application. Now I've just got to get fingerprints done and go get a money order to send it off.

I just sent my application off this past Tuesday so hopefully they are running closer to the 6 weeks than 8 weeks they mentioned on their website. I just listed US Army & Utah Concealed Carry Permit and included photocopies of my Military Discharge and my permit (double covered! lol) with a money order for the 60 dollars, fingerprints and filled out application.

I maintain CCW permits for New York State (*not* New York City and its immediate environs, which are a world unto themselves), Utah and Arizona. If the interactive map at the CCW reciprocity website reflects reality, holding the Arizona CCW license means being able to carry in New Mexico and Nevada while simply having a Utah CCW means zip for either of those two states. It does seem a little odd, but this peculiarity is specifically why I sprang for the Arizona CCW permit a few years ago.

http://usacarry.com/concealed_carry_per ... _maps.html

I forget now whose course I took for the CCW permitting process, but he conducted a good class at a reasonable cost. If I find the records again and if anyone asks, I'll post the details. :type:

P.S. Dagnabit, it's taking a lot longer than I'd expected to establish a secure financial foundation upon which to base a move to Utah, but I'm determined to do it one way or the other. I need to be able to immediately set up shop in Utah without having to start all over again with a totally new set of clients. Maybe early 2018 will see me waving bye-bye forever to the nanny state that is New York. I'll pause briefly at the border with Pennsylvania for a good spit on the ground and an appallingly rude gesture that evokes avian degeneracy. I may even break into a little dance of delight.

Jolly good show, garyrox! May I ask what route you took to Arizona? Did you travel through the South? I've gone over possible routes repeatedly, and it looks to be very difficult to get to Utah without first passing through the Chicago metropolitan area or else adding hundreds of miles to the trip. Illinois is bad enough already, but Chicago is a demonic exhibition (think of a different word, heh-heh) of anti-gun sentiment and traps for the unwary. Frankly, I'm nervous about the thought of driving through what seem to be the outskirts of that metropolitan area, even on a federal highway.
