Wasatch Mountain State Park sign

Postby muddy » Sun 12 Jun 2016 6:47 pm

A guy on the ATV Utah forum noticed a sign at the Wasatch Mountain State Park stating no firearms so he went to there web site and found the below posted rules about firearms on there web site.
From my understanding the sign has no effect if you have a concealed permit and with us being able to carry a loaded concealed firearm in the car I would think the sign means little?

Firearms - Possession or use of firearms, traps or
other devices capable of launching a projectile that
can immobilize, injure or kill a person or animal, or
damage property is prohibited unless the weapon or
device is 1) unloaded and packed away to prevent its
use, 2) being used for legal pursuit of wildlife or 3)
being used by authorized enforcement officers in the
performance of official duties.

Sign as written/posted is null and void as pertaining to firearms possession as the State legislature has not given ANY state park authority to regulate possession of firearms per my understanding of state law and MANY previous discussions on this forum in the past.

The sign is outdated and does not express current law.

A photo would be great. A polite letter to whomever is responsible for the sign, reminding him about State Preemption generally gets such signs fixed in short order.

I'll be there this weekend and will try to get a photo of the sign.

I feel like we went through this a few years ago with Wasatch :disgusted:

This sign is illegal in its current format. As a state park, Wasatch Mountain cannot regulate the possession of firearms and must defer to state law.
