Kel-Tec Sub 2000 Gen 2

Postby D-FIN » Sat 06 Feb 2016 12:59 am

I have been wanting one of these since well before the release of the new gen 2 version and was surprised by the wife on birthday with a Glock 19 9mm version of the sub 2000.

If your not familiar with this firearm it is made in many configurations that accept pistol mags from several popular pistol makers in both 9mm and 40 cal versions.

This is a preliminary portion to the actual review as I have not yet fired it. I am quite happy with it so far everything seems to function well. The breakdown is not to difficult. It can be a little tricky getting the spring compressed and pin through the adjustable buttstock while holding it all in just perfect position.

The gen 2 has a lot of improvements over the earlier model. Better fore grip with built in accessory rails and m-lock slots. Improved front sight.(AR-15 post style). Front sight is removable and also threaded so you can add flash or sound suppressors. They also opened up the ejection port a bit and reworked the grip some.

Mine came with a 10 round only Glock 19 mag which seems a waste. (Must be a CA version). I see a few 33 round Glock sticks in my future and maybe even a drum. Anyone have any for sale cheap?

Ok now for pics.

I hope to shoot it later today since it's after midnight now ;) so I'll be sure to let you know how it went. I did notice that the front sight seems to be cranked way over to the left. Hopefully it can get it all adjusted good first trip out. I don't have front sight tool for the elevation so I hope that is ok.

I have a front sight Tool, I could join you and help you shoot it. . . ;) I just picked up my silencerco octane this week. I need to get out and shoot that as well.

Cool we are actually about to head out now. I'm not sure where. Probably indoors maybe at Discount Gun is Salt Lake as I have some range passes. You wanted to try her Apex trigger to didn't you?

The Kel-Tec was a fun little gun. Beth's Shield was vastly improved by the Speed sights and Apex trigger. That trigger is about 700 times better than the original.

Thanks for the invite and for letting us play with your guns. :dancing:

So As Snurd mentioned we got out to Discount Guns and Ammo this evening and put some rounds through the Kel-Tec. It definitely needed some sighting in from how it came. I've heard that these are sighted in at the factory but I think somebody must have played with the sights since then. Once I got the shots centered horizontally i borrowed Snurds AR adjuster tool and brought it up a bit and was pretty happy with the results.

As far as performance goes we did not have a single malfunction. We started out with a 100 rounds of magtech 115 gr that bought at the range. We shot 10 of my new 125gr cast n coated reloads that we were function testing in our guns and another 60 or so of my regular 124gr reloads. Gun worked flawlessly for every round. I am not sure how much I like the peep sights. I don't like how it blocks so much of the target field of view. This type of sight is new for me though. short range accuracy was pretty good. I don't think we even took out to 25 yards this trip. We mostly wanted to sight it in a bit and have some fun and we did that.

I was in a rush to get out before closing so I didn't think to take any target pics but groups were managing pretty close at least at pistol ranges.

On a side note I got to shoot Snurds new Lionheart 9mm. It is a light feeling gun and the action and trigger are very smooth. I only shot 5 rounds but it was easy to stack shots on top of each other at 5-7 yards. :dancing:

Thanks for letting me use your sight adjuster tool Snurd.

No problemo. You should have shot more with the Lionheart. It's a smooth little fella. I guess we will just have to get to the range again. :lol2:

For sure. I'd love to put your suppressor on the Kel-tec sometime. They put the thread protector on there pretty tight though. Instructions say I should use a vise and some heat to remove it.

They do that to the birdcage flash hiders on some AR's too. I had to use a good amount of force to take mine off so I could put the Silencerco muzzle brake on.

A suppressor on that Kel-Tec would be pretty slick. :dancing: I'm game.

I do need to get a fixed barrel spacer for the Osprey before we use it on the Kel-Tec. Hopefully that won't be too far down the road.
