Has any one heard of a lead refinery closing in the US? I had a shooting buddy send me a link on a story that the EPA had made some regulations so rigid that this refinery was closing because compliance with the regs was too costly. This was supposedly the biggest refinery in the US. The story went on about how the price of lead core ammo would be going through the roof, worse than it is now.

Sportsman's in Provo yesterday had a lot of 5.56/.223 on the shelf. Prices still high.

Surprisingly, the shelves at the Washington (southern Utah) are fairly stocked. Still hard to come by .22, .223, and .38 spc, but everything else was pretty full. There was so much .45 that they had to fill a slot for 9mm with .45. Prices are still a little high, but I expect them to come back down.

22LR
Natchez have Federal Champion at 5c per round.
http://www.natchezss.com/federal-champion-target-22-lr-40-gr-sld-rimfire-ammunition-50-box.html

Note that the web site incorrectly shows a picture of a 325 round box of AM22. That is not the round for sale, although they are similar. I think this is probably the "510" part number which is 40gn, LRN, 1240 fps

Probably have to be quick if you're interested. This is a good price. Probably all be gone fairly soon but still showing in stock as of this minute :)

Two to report on the 22LR front :

1. Natchez have Federal Auto Match (AM22) for 6c per round - limit of two 325 round boxes - Shipping usually brings that up to around 7c per round, still a decent price for this round. It's about a 1200 fps (x 40 grain) cartridge so has enough push to cycle semi-auto actions (as far as I have observed).

Still in stock as of 5:15 a.m. this morning-tends to go fast at this price. Still offered, routinely, at 8-9c per round at other on-line retailers.

2. Yesterday I was at Cabela's (Lehi branch) and they had CCI Standard Velocity (00035), 50 round boxes, for 10c per round. Limit was 1200 rounds total per customer!
a) That's nice to see a much higher limit than normal for this round It seems that recently I've seen CCI Standard Velocity limited to one or two hundred rounds most places-if you can even find it.
b) That's a decent price for what is (IMO) a decent round in the moderate price-range. It's a slower, quieter round (1070 fps IIRC), likely to be subsonic, even at this altitude-certainly in a pistol, yet it still cycles my Colt 1911 22 without fail. I hope this is an indication that better times are coming as far as availability of this popular 22LR cartridge is concerned.

Happy Friday, everyone :)

FNH 5.7x28-good deal right now from Palmetto-32c per round
http://palmettostatearmory.com/catalog/product/view/id/59/
My experience has been that if you pick up at least a few hundred rounds the shipping ends up adding about 1c per round to the overall cost. This is the cheapest I've seen it in the past year and it's been several months since I've seen this price.

This is the genuine FNH SS197SR round-not the American Eagle. I find it to be cleaner than the American Eagle although I'm not capable of detecting any difference in performance.

(I'm probably talking to about three people out there who have any interest in 5.7  )

Cheers,
Geoff.

I have an interest in the ammo, just don't have the firearm to go with it (yet). I don't think Father Christmas is going to bring one this year either. :crying:

I wouldn't mind trying out a 5.7. One issue that I have with it, is that the firearms are so expensive. The FN Five-Seven is around $1200. The PS90 is up there in price too. Glock doesn't make a gun to fire the round. Neither does S&W, Springfield Armory, Colt, yada yada yada.

At the cost of ammo, I would rather be shooting my AR.
